TCM (US) will be celebrating Charlie’s birthday bright and early Monday morning (April 16th). I guess I shouldn’t complain because at least they are acknowledging his birthday this year. It’s just too bad they are showing his films when most people are asleep or at work.
Here’s the schedule (times are EST):
6:00 AM: Pay Day (1922)
6:30 AM: The Kid (1921)
7:30 AM: A Woman Of Paris (1923)
9:00 AM: City Lights (1931)

Don’t forget to tune in to the TCM Charlie Chaplin marathon tonight beginning at 8pm (EST).
Even though I can watch Charlie’s movies anytime on DVD, it’s fun to see them on TCM. I especially enjoy Robert Osborne’s intros and outros.

Mark your calendars Chaplin fans!

On Saturday, January 7th, TCM (U.S.) will be showing an evening of Chaplin films beginning at 8PM and ending at 6AM. For the full schedule, click here.

Among the films being shown (as part of TCM’s “The Essentials”)are City Lights, Modern Times, The Kid, The Circus, A Dog’s Life & Shoulder Arms.

Simpsons creator Matt Groening and TCM’s Robert Osborne discuss The Circus.  I am very impressed with how much Mr. Groening knows about Chaplin and I share many of his opinions about this film—it is certainly an underrated masterpiece.

Thanks to Amy for telling me about this!

Limelight will be airing tonight at 1:30 AM (EST) on TCM as part of their month-long tribute to Buster Keaton.

Don’t miss Sundays with Buster Keaton on TCM this month. 51 feature films and shorts will be shown. It will be all Buster, every Sunday evening in October.

Beginning at midnight tonight (EST), TCM will be showing The Circus followed by Pay Day. I probably won’t be able to stay awake, but I plan on taping them so I can see the intros and outros. I always enjoy those on TCM.

Here’s the mirror maze scene from The Circus (1928).

I hope everyone got a chance to watch City Lights last night. I enjoyed the comments by Robert Osborne and Alec Baldwin at the beginning and end, especially when Alec Baldwin compared Jim Carrey and Ben Stiller to Chaplin. I agree with Robert Osborne’s response. Chaplin combined his physical comedy with a gentleness and a sweetness that sets him apart from Carrey and Stiller’s more “mean-spirited” roles.
